Energy is the essential material for human beings'survival, as well as the important resource for economic development. Since the Openness and Reform, Chinese economy developed rapidly. Today, as the largest developing country of the world, China has had remarkable achievements in constructions of economy. However, China's rapidly economic growths are most-partly based on high consumption of energy. The substantial growth of energy consumption will inevitably bring series of problems, such as energy shortage, and environmental pollution, etc. and this is bound to become the bottleneck of the development in China. On this basis, the relationship between energy consumption and economic development has attracted widely attention, and this theme has become another researching focus. This thesis is based on the economic development of our country, through the scientifically and systemically analysis about the relationship between energy consumption and economy development, we gave the theoretical basis of making the energy-consuming strategy, adjusting the industrial structure, as well as transiting the economy model. During the analysis, the author combined qualitative research method and quantitative research method, also the theoretical research method and empirical research method together. In the part of qualitative analysis, this thesis used Energy Consumption Intensity and Elasticity Ratio of Energy Consumption to measure the effects of energy consumption to China's economic growth. Then we got the conclusion through the trend of these indicators that, although there are some fluctuations in the effects of energy consumption to our country's economic growth, it has been heightening gradually in total, meanwhile the energy efficiency has also been gradually improving; In the part of quantitative analysis, by use of relevant theoretical model and using the econometric software Eviews 6.0, the author researched the relationship between the energy consumption structure and China's economic growth both in long term and short term, and also made a study on the specific effects of both total and compositions of energy consumption to the economic growth. The dissertation takes the data since the opening policy formed, that is, from 1978 to 2009 as samples, then makes energy consumptions as endogenous variables, and puts them into the traditional production function to construct a new model. On this basis, this thesis respectively makes the quantitative analysis between economic growth and the energy consumption, as well as between economic growth and each part of the compositions of energy in China. By means of these results, we could analyze the effects of total energy consumption to economic growth, and also could measure the promotion effects of different kinds of energy consumption on economic growth. Finally, according to the results, this thesis provides some proposals from such aspects as the improvement of energy consumption strategy, the transformation of the economic growth mode, as well as the co-ordination of energy consumption and economic growth in China.
