Study On The Relationship Between Energy Consumption And Economic Growth Of Shaanxi Province

At present, economy of Shaanxi Province is at an important historical stage that industrialization and urbanization move forward with higher speed. Economic development needs massive energy, and economic high growth certainly will drive the fast increase of the energy consumption. A scientific and correct understanding of the regularity during energy consumption and economic growth has great significance for making plan of energy development, accomplishing the strategic objective of comprehensive construction well-off society, promoting long-term sustainable development between energy and economic.This paper has explained the relevant theories of the relation between energy consumption and the economic growth; it has analyzed the condition of energy consumption and economic growth of Shaanxi Province and the impact of the economic structure change to the energy consumption intensity; it has studied the relation between energy consumption and economic growth of Shaanxi Province by Co-Integration Test, Granger Causality Test and Error Correction Model, based on the data of the energy consumption and GDP of Shaanxi Province from 1978 to 2007 and the data of every component of the energy consumption and GDP of Shaanxi Province from 1985-2007. Shown as the result, there exits the evident co-integration relationship between GDP and energy consumption, coal consumption, oil consumption of Shaanxi Province, and the economic growth promotes the increase of the energy consumption and coal consumption, while the increase of water and electricity consumption promotes the economic growth, and the economic growth has a bilateral causality with the natural gas consumption. Finally, the paper has pointed out the problem between energy consumption and economic growth of Shaanxi Province, and has proposed four suggestions: accelerate the development of the tertiary industry, adjust and optimize the structure of industry actively; improve the energy efficiency, take the road that circular economy combined with high technology; increase the proportion of clean energy, strengthen energy conversion; enhance macro-management and policy guide of the energy consumption.We hope that this study can be more accurate announce the relation between the energy and economy of Shaanxi Province, and be useful of taking measures and making relevant policies for government to promote the harmonious development between energy and economy, and strengthen people's energy suffering consciousness and responsibility consciousness of saving the energy and protecting the environment.
