A Study On The Relationship Of Scoial Network, Social Capital And New Venture Performance

By achieving a high performance, new ventures will go through the tough beginning and grow to be mature enterprises with long run perspectives. However, with the liability of newness, new ventures are difficult to access the information, resources, and influence which are fundamental for high performance through market in regular ways. So, new ventures'social network, consisting of founding team members'personal network, plays an important role in obtaining these information, resources and influence to boost new ventures.Based on the samples of start-ups, we made a deep research and then rethought on new ventures'social network and social capital under Chinese context. After interviews with entrepreneurs and then a mass survey, we put new ventures'social network into three parts, including social, business and supporting, and put new ventures'social capital into three part as well, including information, resource, and influence. In basis of those above, we built up the model from the new venture'social network to its performance intervened by its social capital. We also confirmed and discussed on this model and its hypotheses with a statistics analysis.The research shows that the effect from the new venture's social network to its performance is partially intervened by its social capital. Besides, the three parts of its social network work differently on accumulating three social capitals. As time goes, ventures'demands on social capital vary. Therefore, it's critical to improve and reconstruct their portfolio on social network to meet their social-capital demands for sustainable development.
