We are in an era of global business prosperity, the mass upsurge of entrepreneurship and innovation is also setting off a vigorous in China. But at the same time there also have numerous start-up companies that is of low performance, eventually ended in gloom. New venture and its performance has become a hot academic research. However, it not difficult to find that scholars are accustomed to use the resource-based theory to explain the rigid support that social network provided for entrepreneurs and ultimately produce entrepreneurial behavior and performance according to the study status. There is no doubt about this role, but the path and mechanism are not clear. Social network can not only bring the rigid support, but also can bring flexible support about emotional, psychological and cognitive aspects. Especially when entrepreneurs in the poor situation of entrepreneurial environment, the flexible support derived from social network is very important for them. It makes entrepreneurs adhere to entrepreneurial career in the most difficult period and finally achieve the new venture performance. However, this flexible support does not cause enough attention of scholars, so this study is to explore the relationship and mechanism of social network and new venture performance.First of all, this study constructed a theoretical model on the basis of a large number of literature according to the study status, including social network, entrepreneurial optimism, new venture performance, entrepreneurial environment and entrepreneurial experience. Based on literature review and research model we put forward eight sets of assumptions. Finally, on the basis of theory research we selected the mature scale to the measurement of each variable and 142 start-up entrepreneurs with their ventures as the research sample. According to the data, we used SPSS and AMOS to analyze the data. Empirical study results show that social network has a significantly positive influence on new venture performance and entrepreneurial optimism, entrepreneurial optimism has a significantly positive influence on new venture performance, entrepreneurial optimism plays an mediating role between social network and new venture performance, and entrepreneurial environment plays an moderating role between social network and entrepreneurial optimism, it also plays an moderating role between entrepreneurial optimism and new venture performance. Finally, on the basis of the conclusions, this paper raises some new advice and suggestions for the development of new venture from the aspects such as social networks, entrepreneurial optimism and entrepreneurial environment.
