| This paper tried to figure out the areas of diversity and profession worked based on diversity, specialization and knowledge spillovers effects of regional innovation performance study of the microscopic mechanism. It opened a new innovative idea for the controversial issue of which is more conductive to regional innovation. It also provided a theoretical and empirical guidance for local government to develop policies of optimizing the industrial structure.This paper studied the effect on regional innovation performance by industrial structure with panel data of 20 Chinese provinces'five high-tech industries from year 2000 to 2009. The result showed that in most of the country, the relation of industrial diversity ,industrial specialization and the product term had significant positive effects on innovation performance, knowledge spillovers and innovation output had a mutually reinforcing relationship. In the coastal larger areas, industrial diversification and the product term could bring more innovation output than specialization, so we should vigorously develop industry diversification, and strengthen the product term ,while reduce industrial specialization. In the coastal smaller areas, we should balance the degree of specialization and diversification, while control the product term in a proper range. In the inland smaller areas, specialization and the product term can improve the innovation performance, but diversity should be reduced. Competition could improve innovation in all of the regions, which should be enhanced. From the sub-region analysis we realizes that, the industrial structure's and knowledge spillover's effects on innovation performance depends largely on the area size and location. |
