A Study On The Innovation And Development Of Building Material Industry In Yunnan

Currently China is the world's largest producing and consumption country of building materials, with the production technology of major industries and equipment levels close to or approaching the advanced level of the world. However, the building materials industry in China is still in "big but not strong" status which appears as the characteristics of both "big four" and "five low". The "big four" reflects as big output of production, vast numbers of enterprises, large workforce and huge energy consumption etc. While the "five low" is embodied in low labor productivity, inferior intensive degree, low-level of technological content, short of adaptability to market changes and disappointing economic effectiveness, etc. During the implementation process of western development strategy, although the industry of building materials in Yunnan Province has obtained a rapid development, compared with other provinces, it still faces many problems including lower competitiveness, single industrial structure, higher energy consumption and serious pollution. Therefore it is an urgent research issue for the building material industry in Yunnan Province that how to change economic growth pattern, update the industrial structure and promote the competitiveness through taking the route of innovated development.Based on the theory and method of Industrial Economics, Innovation Economics and the Systematic Science, this dissertation conducts an in-depth and systematic study on the innovation and development of building material industry in Yunnan Province. There are total of three chapters except the chapter of Introduction. Thereinto Chapter Two establishes the evaluation system and method of innovation capability of building material industry and emphasizes the importance of taking the road of innovated development based on the analysis of the current situation of building material industry in Yunnan Province. Also the internal and external impetus promoting the innovated development have been put forward and the corresponding dynamic model has been presented in Chapter Three, with the operating mechanism of motive system revealed as well. The fourth chapter proposes the strategic choices of building materials industry in Yunnan Province on the basis of the basic industries analysis. Main innovations in this dissertation are listed as follows:(1) The evaluation index system of building material enterprises has been established based on the staged characteristics of the whole process of innovation. This system is composed of the innovation decision, innovation support, innovation ability of resource inputs, R&D capabilities, manufacturing and development capabilities, marketing capabilities and cooperation ability which is provided the features of scientificalness, systematicness, operability, simplicity and guidance quality, and so on.(2) The dynamic model of innovation of building materials industry and its operating mechanism have been established and explored. The innovation motive of building materials industry is a system composed by not only the internal motive including entrepreneurialship, intellectual property rights and interests, but also by the external motivation including market demand pulling, technological progress pushing and government incentives. As the result, this system has formed such operating mechanism as "one subject, multiple supports"(3) The innovation strategy of building materials industry in Yunnan has been proposed. Only depending on the innovation could the building materials industry in Yunnan develop sustainably under the circumstances of west region development and resource as well as environment constraints. The cooperative innovation strategy should be taken from the perspective of technological sources and green innovation strategy from the innovative content for the building materials industry in Yunnan Province.
