Nowadays modern science and technology is developed so rapidly, and geographic information technology is also constantly updated and progress. With the intensification of social information, especially the extensive use of the time dimension, many application fields, such as meteorological dynamics monitoring and analysis, land resource management, traffic management and monitoring, environment monitoring and so on, put forward a higher demand for the spatial and temporal analysis function of geographic information system (GIS). Therefore, the spatial and temporal information is even more important in more and more applications. Traditional GIS is no longer qualified for a higher level of demand, so temporal GIS (TGIS) has been more and more concerned of scholars as a new field of GIS research and applications. The core and foundation of TGIS is to create appropriate and efficient spatio-temporal data model (STDM), which can help to research time and space subjects, tracking and analyzing time-varying spatial and non-spatial information. STDM can organize and manage the space, time and attribute information of geographic objects, as well, it can reproduce the historical status, track changes, display the status quo and predict the future. However, process-based STDM becomes a new direction and new developments of current research because of its superiority in the storage and dynamic analysis. In this paper, aiming at the spatial and temporal characteristics of storm data field, the author designs a four-dimensional spatio-temporal data model based on the storm process (Storm-PBSTDM) according to the theoretical basis of process-based STDM. We establish four-dimensional spatio-temporal semantic framework for the storm process which is suitable for describing, with analysis and expression the relationship of four-dimensional storm process data field and the spatial and temporal process variation feature in the true three-dimensional environment. Then the paper discusses description and organization of storm spatio-temporal process object, researches spatio-temporal query mechanism of storm process-oriented. And then the author provides a four-dimensional spatio-temporal data model based on storm process. The research findings in the paper will do a good exploration and development for the process-based STDM both in theory and in practice. It will further complement and improve the theories and methods of process-based STDM, and provide the experiences and infrastructure for the research of the general model. The above research findings will promote the development of multi-dimensional dynamic GIS and the applications in meteorological field.During the research process, the paper completes the following research issues:1. Summarizing. The author analyzes the research background and status quo, points out two problems:first, there are still some inadequacies on the study of the STDM. This is because process-based STDM is still in its infancy, the theoretical basis is not very strong and different scholars have different understanding on spatio-temporal process. Second, it is difficult to analyze and research on the process-based comprehendingly. That is because the expression and analysis of storm process is also limited in the time domain and space domain independently, as well, spatio-temporal analysis is relatively scarce. There is no effective expression of the storm process spatial and temporal changes in the data model. Base on this, the main research objective, contents as well as organizational framework are formed.2. The spatio-temporal data modeling basis. Firstly, the paper systematically introduces the concept of time and space in the geographic world to establish a correct concept of temporal and spatial cognition. Secondly, spatio-temporal semantics are summarized in detail from the semantics of time, space, event, attributes and process. It provides a theoretical basis for further research. Finally, comparative analysis of several typical STDM to provide a reference for the process modeling of the four-dimensional storm data field.3. Establishing the Storm-PBSTDM conceptual model. The paper analyzes the variation feature of storm spatio-temporal process four-dimensional data filed, researches the basic object of the spatio-temporal process semantic expression, which is the four-dimensional storm data field under the guide of idea of spatio-temporal process. Four-dimensional storm spatio-temporal process (SSTP) semantic representation framework is established. By semantic modeling the complex spatio-temporal process changes phenomenon, the paper builds a conceptual model of the Storm-PBSTDM.4. Establishing the Storm-PBSTDM logic model. On the basis of the conceptual model of the storm-PBSTDM, the paper researches the evolution characteristics of the spatio-temporal process objects, the semantics hierarchical structure, the internal specific relationship and so on. Storm data is classification abstracted. The author researches between and within the storm phenomenon spatio-temporal process object relationship and logical structure, achieves effective expression and organization of storm spatio-temporal process object, and then Storm-PBSTDM logic model is built.5. Designing and realizing an experiment system. The paper discusses the basic architecture of the experimental system, function modules and strategies. Taking storm echo data for example, history back, dynamic inversion and spatio-temporal prediction function are designed and tested with storm data field.6. Finally, the author draws a conclusion on the research issues, and recommends directions for further research. The characteristics, work product and creativities of this paper is as the followings:1. Grading SSTP to establish four-dimensional spatio-temporal process framework, it is the basis for four-dimensional spatio-temporal data filed model.2. An appropriate spatio-temporal query mechanism can achieve the spatio-temporal information retrieval capabilities.
