In order to develop the thin reservoir of low oil abundance at the edge of oilfield effectively and economically, using the fine description of reservoirs and seismic interpretation results, wells and seismic data, geologic modeling, numerical simulation and economic assessment method, this paper has studied on structural characteristics, reservoir characteristics, horizontal well layer selection and optimization design based on combination of well and seismic data, logging and tracing while drilling and economic assessment.According to fine structural interpretation and3D geological modeling, adaptability standards of horizontal well in thin reservoir have been established, horizontal well can be used on0.5m-1.0m thin layer potential tapping. Based on the specific geological conditions, optimization design is proceeded, mainly including the form and parameter optimization of horizontal well, the well pattern, injection production well spacing, horizontal section length and position optimization. It has chosed injection-production well pattern of the highest recovery level, trajectory length and azimuth of horizontal well is determined by structure, sand body distribution and fracture direction. According to the characteristics that the horizontal wells’ root end producing situation is better than the toe end, considering the pressure loss of the oil and water wells, injection wells and production wells are designed reverse direction and parallel to each other, which can overcome the pressure loss caused by local breakthrough of injected water. Parallel reverse pattern can enlarge the control area, which is the best horizontal wells injection-production pattern. Logging and tracing while drilling, its key techniques include geological modeling while drilling, stochastic simulation method, measurement while drilling, formation contrast, marker selection, at the same time, according to the LWD curve guide for adjusting the drilling direction, ensuring the success of horizontal well drilling in the thin reservoir, which makes the sandstone drilling rate reached91.7%.The achievement of this study formed a set of relatively complete method using horizontal wells at the edge of the reservoir, it improved single well production and oil recovery rate, therefore it became possible to develop the low oil abundance reservoirs economically and effectively. And it can guide tapping latent potentialities of similar reservoir and hard-to-recover reservoirs. It can also provide the reference and guidance to the horizontal well geologic design of thin reservoirs.
