Heterogeneous mining information systems have been established in most of mining enterprises under the upsurge in Digital Mine. Traditional mining information systems focus on the development of functions, and have forceful pertinence, but are poor in portability and reusability, lack systemic expression of knowledge, and are difficult to achieve knowledge sharing and reuse.Ontology, as a philosophical concept, has received increasing attention in computer science since the1990s, its importance has been recognized in different areas, especially in areas such as knowledge engineering, database designing, information modeling, information retrieval and extraction, knowledge management and organization and so on. Ontology-building is to express the things and the relationships among of the things which exist in the real world by a clear formal mode, and to achieve the aim of sharing and reusing the domain knowledge, even direct interacting between man and machine, machine and machine.This thesis focuses on the serious problems existing in Digital Mine, introduces ideas and methods of ontology into the construction of mine management and production scheduling platform, and selects mining area power supply field in metal mine which occupies an important and foundational status in mining activities as the field of study. Firstly, this thesis explores the theories and methods of ontology, elaborates the concept, formal representation languages, building guidelines and methods, building tools and ontology storage, and analyses the concepts in the field of mining area power supply and the relationships among of them, and depicts the hierarchy and E-R model of them. On this basis, this thesis selects the OWL ontology language which has been recommended by W3C, and builds the ontology knowledge base using Protege--an ontology editing tool, combining with the ontology construction methods of the current mainstream. Under the guidance of the ontology knowledge base, this thesis constructs two-dimensional relational ontology instance database and the mapping between the ontology knowledge base and the ontology instance database to build a complete ontology model. Secondly, this thesis focuses on the ontology-based information query on the basis of ontology model combining the characteristics of geographic information system. Finally, based on the combination of ontology technology and GIS technology, this thesis builds a prototype system due to the specific needs of the field of mining area power supply of metal mine, and tests it using the real data of mining area power supply field of Shanghai Baosteel Meishan Stope.
