This paper studies the development of virtual geographical environment on the spatialcognition, as well the organization, management and expression method of vector data andimage data. Then we analyze several three-dimensional terrain expression of virtual geographicalenvironment. The analysis concluded that the simulation of texture presents a betterthree-dimensional terrain expression, but there are also some shortcomings. To address thesedeficiencies, this paper focuses on the expression of vector data and image data. Firstly, thescheduling and management of integrated vector data and image data is studied. And the dataengine between the program and the storage system is designed. Then the overall design of theexpression of vector data and image data is designed based on the analysis of existing vector dataand image data representation method. We conducted in-depth study of two key technologies inthe expression vector data and image data. Experiments of this designed method are validatedand tested expression vector data and image data extensions. This work:1Summarizes and analyses the main expression of the method of virtual geographicalenvironment in the three-dimensional terrain. The analysis results show that the simulationtexture characteristics of the symbol and the three-dimensional effect is a betterthree-dimensional terrain expression manner, but there are still many deficiencies. Therefore, thisarticle identified by the expression of vector data and image data to address these issues.2In order to provide a basement to the comprehensive expression of the vector data andimage data, we focuses on the integrated vector data and image data management strategies anddata scheduling. First, their own characteristics and organizational methods of vector data andimage data are analyzed. Then we discuss the principle for scheduling and organization of thevector data and image data. At last, we design a specific way for the data organization andscheduling of vector data and image data.3We sum up the currently available vector data and image data rendering method, mostlyof geometry-based rendering method, texture-based rendering method and both of these methodsimprove. This article focuses on texture-based rendering method and makes it more responsive tothe requirements of the global3D visualization environment. We use FBO technology andmulti-texture mapping techniques to design the comprehensive expression of vector data andimage data rendering engine. FBO is used for the production of the texture from vector data.Multi-texture technology is used for drawing the texture from vector data and the texture ofimage data on the surface of the terrain at the same time.4We design the prototype experiment by the method for the vector data and image data for the proposed integrated scheduling and expression. By comparison with several otherthree-dimensional terrain expression methods, we verify the advantages of the method in thispaper.
