Nitrate pollution of shallow groundwater in Hohhot and its surrounding villages, is obviously apt to increase in recent years. Because of the increasing water runoff decreased, and the poor soil fertility, the nitrogenous fertilizer is used of the farmers, a large number of fertilizers aren’t absorbed by the plant and are changed into nitrate, and infiltrated into the shallow groundwater. The study based on the mathematical model of the groundwater flow and solute transport which is built by VisualMODFLOW software, simulated migration and pervasion of nitrate pollutant in the shallow groundwater, forecasted the distributing status of the pollutant and the trend of the pollution development for the groundwater. It is the key that established mathematical model of groundwater system for the study area, where Huhhot and its surrounding villages. By analysis natural geography and hydrogeological condition the study area, establishing hydrogeological 3Dflow model of the shallow groundwater for the study area. Assembling VisualMODFLOW and accessory software, the first founding the map for simulation software, second analysing and dispersing the model, inputting the data, further recognising and validating the reliability of the model, finally, the simulation results are simulated 3d rendering.Through comparing from the predicted results with the pollutant’s measured data, the model completed the simulation scientificly and reasonablely for the migration and pervasion of nitrate pollutant in the shallow groundwater. The predicted results showed that from 2010 to 2015, under decrease of shallow groundwater exploitation, the groundwater level can keep the equilibrium, but nitrate pollutants will continue to spread, contaminants may gradually penetrate from the shallow aquifer into the bearing pressure aquifer. The study based on VisualMODFLOW software to forecast for shallow groundwater pollution and water in the study area from 2006 to 2015, Briefly analyzing the spatial variation and trends of the groundwater contaminant, and offering reasonable suggestions and references.
