The Research On Visual Characteristics Based On The Chair Of Metal And Plastic Material

Visual characteristic of material is one of the most important basis for furniture designer todetermine design plan. In this research, we evaluated the visual feeling of metal and plasticmaterial based on chairs, through market researching, image semantic selected, and using themethod of Kansei Engineering. The primary results were as follows:(1)In the three kinds of surface metal material, the mirror metal visual feeling evaluation isthe highest, then is the brushed metal, and the frosted metal visual feeling evaluation is the lowest.In perspective of sitting position, the visual feeling evaluation of both mirror metal and brushedmetal are higher than standing perspective. In terms of the frosted metal, except the "shiny", therest of three visual feeling scores more in perspective of standing position than sitting perspective.In the daylight, the evaluation of the mirror metal visual feeling is the highest; In the warm light,the brushed metal is the highest; While in the cold light, three kinds of surface metal visualfeeling scores more decentralized.(2)Among the five different plastic material, the matt plastic can provide people morepractical visual feeling, light plastic and transparent plastic give us visual feeling not only smoothbut young, transparent plastic make our visual feeling varied. The evaluation of women’s visualfeeling is higher than men on the five plastic material. Except the evaluation of visual feeling oftranslucent plastic at0°is higher than horizontal roll45°, the other four kinds of plastic materialvisual feeling evaluation at horizontal roll45°is higher than0°. Except the visual feeling oftransparent plastic with two kinds of colors scores more decentralized, the other four kinds ofvisual feeling evaluation of the plastic material in red is higher than blue.(3) Among the chairs which are composed of three kinds of surface metal and five kinds ofplastic material respectively, the higher evaluation of visual feeling are respectively: mirror metaland transparent plastic collocation, brushed metal and light plastic collocation, frosted metal andtransparent plastic collcation.
