Gear machine is the most complex structure, most parts and highest technology ofthe machine tools in this world, which are recognized by the machine industry. Thereare only a few developed countries such as USA, Japan, Germany, which are capable ofproducing gear machine. The major market of the gear machine tool is occupied byoverseas manufacturers in China. Nowadays, the gear industry of China is showing thedevelopment trends of information design, intelligent equipment, process automationand modern management. The gear enterprises of China are changing from scaling andspeeding model into the model of innovation and efficiency, which goes to a new stageof scientific development.In order to adapt to this need, this paper proposed an intelligent programmingsystem of CNC gear hobbing machine based on the Siemens NC system, which can alsoprovide the online compensation of thermal errors. The development of this system notonly simplifies the programming of the NC gear hobbing process, which also improvesthe efficiency of NC gear hobbing. More important, it improves the accuracy of gearhobbing through the NC system which achieves real-time compensation of thermal errordistortion.This subject mainly completes the following research works:①The laws of similarities and characteristics for the intelligent programmingsystem of CNC gear machine are researched. The problems of gear hobbingcharacteristics in the complex environment under different processing objects, differenthobbing machine, different tools and different processes are verified, which based onthe revealing of common laws of gear hobbing process. This is the fundament ofmodeling for the intelligent programming system of NC gear machine.②The frame of NC program for the intelligent programming system of NC gearmachine is established. Using the flexible programming techniques, which is offered bySiemens company. This will help the main program to call the subprogram, and alsocomplete the subroutine nesting, which completes the generation of complex NCprogram.③Based on the Siemens840D open NC systems, the high-precision,general-purpose, multi-function intelligent programming system of NC gear hobbingmachine is developed. This system will automatically test and generate the NC program under different objects, different hobbing machines, different tools and differentprocesses in the complex environment, which only inputs the parameters of workpiece,tool and process, or select workpiece, tool and process according to the database ofprocess knowledge.④This paper analyzes the thermal deformation of gear hobbing machine, and alsofinds out the most characteristics which caused thermal deformation. The model ofthermal error compensation are modeled through testing the temperature of the detectedfeature points, which achieves the development of automatic compensation of thermaldeformation in gear hobbing machine, which is based on "intelligent programming”technology.
