As the core of the sustainable development, The quantitativeresearch is used to quantitative estimat if the human being activity are within the rangeof the ecological capacity. The idea of ecological footprint,which was first used tomeasure the degree of sustainable development by Canadian ecological economistWilliam and his student Wackemagel in1990s，is a kind of important method ofquantifying the sustainable development. The method, from the two aspects of theecological supply and ecological needs, comprehensive estimates the balance betweensupply and demand situation on the regional ecosystem. And it is important sign ofjudging the sustainable development in Chong Qing.The reseach by reading the statistics yearbooks0f Chong Qing.eatimated andanalysed the ecological footprint from1999to2009in Chong Qing. The research hasalso quantitativly appraised the degree of the sustainable development.The results of theresearch are as follows:1. The Chongqing footprint displays the growing prompt trend during the1999-2009years.This is mainly caused by the burning of fossil fuels. The carbon footprint of2009in Chongqing is about the half of the total ecological footprint per capita.2. The ecological capacity of1999-2009years in Chong Qing overall upward trend,but rising rate is relatively small.It has a close relationship with the level of productiontechnology. The improvement of agricultural production technology makes the landyield factor large, thereby improving the ecological capacity.3. The ecological deficit existed during1999-2009in Chong Qing and it expandsceaselessly. This means that the1999-2009ecological demand in Chong Qing exceeds the capacity of ecological environment.The economic and social development of ChongQing are in an unsustainable situation. And the ecological deficit increased year by yearindicates that the development of Chongqing economy society with sustainabledevelopment difference is increased gradually.4.During the1999-2009years, ecological footprint per Million yuan GDP decreasedyear by year, Ecological footprint diversity and development capacity increasedgradually.It shows that with development of the economy Ecological footprint diversityincreases and the development ability strengthens in Chong Qing.
