Research On Construction And Management Mode Of Riverine Wetland Parks In China

This thesis illustrates the international background and national social needs to set up and develop wetland parks in China, through clarifying their theoretical fundamentals and technical principles. Combining theory and practice together, this article adopts methods of literature review, field research and data collection and data analysis and concludes core information of48wetland parks in China. The development process of wetland parks as a newborn subject in China is introduced, pointing out the imbalance between the construction and development of wetland parks. It is found that among all wetland parks that have already been built or are being built, categories of Lake Wetland parks and Reservoir types are the most common, while the construction and management of Riverine Wetland parks are much less and slow in their development. There are also many issues existing in the construction and management of riverine wetland parks nowadays in China, such as people’s absence of scientific cognition and understanding on wetlands, governments’incomplete policies and regulations, inadequate supporting measures and lack of riverine wetland park planning, design and management techniques. Other shortfalls are found baseline line and successful modes and case studies which could be taken as referential experiences, as well as theories and methods of realising harmonious coexistence between the human and natural environments. Moreover wetland loss and the degradation of wild flora and fauna biodiversity caused by high-speed economic development and over-exploitation of natural resources and wetland ecosystem services and value, are not put into full play and reasonable utilisation. This research illustrates all benefits the riverine wetland parks bring to maintain wetland biodiversity, showing the values of aesthetics and recreation, providing chances and places for citizens to enjoy contact with nature and receive education on nature conservation, promoting realisation of ecological benefit and social benefit for economic and cultural development. Combining leading edge aspects of wetland science both home and abroad, varieties of ecological theories of landscape ecology, ecosystem healthy, ecosystem services, biodiversity and advanced techniques on construction of riverine wetland parks, the thesis systematically illustrates the most suitable planning and design of riverine wetland parks, seeking out the optimum path of development for their construction and management mode. This will provide strong support both in theoretical and technical aspects for wetland competent authorities, when making decisions and policies to strengthen and promote development of riverine wetland parks in China.
