With the advantages of high efficiency, speed and accuracy, the machining center has been widely used in the industries of aerospace, construction machinery, ship, automobile and mould since it is developed. And high speed and accuracy will be achieved if the machining center has good static and dynamic characteristics. Therefore, the characteristics analysis of key components and whole machine tool is essential for design to improve the overall performance.Based on the research progress on static and dynamic characteristics as well as structure design optimization of CNC at home and abroad, the static and dynamic characteristics of a vertical CNC machining center are analyzed with ANSYS Workbench software, and the optimal design of beam is carried out. The specific work is as follows:Firstly, this paper introduces the idea and principle of FEM (finite element method), and summarizes theoretical approach of static and dynamic analysis. Besides, the function and application of ANSYS Workbench software are described. The geometric model of machine tool is simplified with Pro/E software and imported to ANSYS Workbench platform by the software interface which establishes the key components as well as the whole machining FEM model.By loading and boundary constraining, the static characteristic of the key components and whole machine have been analyzed to obtain the deformation and stress cloud charts. On the basis of modal analysis on the key components and whole machine, the low order natural frequency and vibrant model are obtained in order to find out the weak points of the machine and avoid the loss brought out by resonance. Finally, the structure design optimization of the beam is achieved with the method of topological optimization. On the basis of the results of topological optimization by Hyper Works, the structure of beam is designed and optimized. Analysis results show that compared with the original design, the new scheme achieves a wonderful optimization, which not only reduces the weight, but also improves the static and dynamic performance of the beam.In this paper, the static and dynamic characteristics analysis and topological optimization of the vertical machining center can provide an effective reference to the practical engineering design.
