With the consciousness for saving energy and reducing consumptionfrom the chemical enterprise being gradually increased, the high efficiencyand low energy consumption in chemical separation process are putforward more and more requirements. The metal wire gauze structuredpacking with high number of theoretical plates and low pressure drop canmeet the above requirements. The S type metal gauze structured packingswhich were researched in this paper have the following advantages: thechannel smooth and unobstructed, easy wetting, so having low pressuredrop; the turbulence being improved for gas and liquid in the packing bed,so having high mass transfer efficiency.In this paper, in the air-water system, the hydrodynamics and masstransfer performance of the S type metal gauze packings(S-500, S-700,S-800and S-1000) were carried out by the cold-flow model test.The results of research on the hydrodynamic performance show that:with the gas kinetic energy factor, spray density of liquid and specificsurface area being increased, the pressure drops(ΔP/Z) for S type metal gauzepackings all increase, while being compared to the traditional packing 700Y with the same specific surface area, S-700packing has a rather lowerpressure drop, that means an excellent hydrodynamic performance; withthe specific surface area and liquid spraying density being increased, theflooding gas velocity for S type metal wire gauze packings all reduce. Thecorrelation formulas of pressure drop and flooding gas velocity for S typemetal wire gauze packings which were obtaind by fitting the experimentaldata, have high accuracy, and can be used to guide industrial productionpractice.The results of research on the mass transfer performance indicate that:with the gas kinetic energy factor being increased, the liquid phase masstransfer coefficient(Kxa) of S type metal gauze packings has no obviouschanges, which shows that the kinetic energy factor has no effect on themass transfer coefficient, while with the kinetic energy factor beingincreased, the equivalent plate height(HETP) values all increase; Increasingthe liquid spray density can improve the mass transfer performance for Stype metal wire gauze packings,the specific embodiments are the increaseof the liquid phase volumetric mass transfer coefficients and the reductionof the equivalent plate height value. While being compared to thetraditional packing700Y with the same specific surface area, S-700packing has a rather higher liquid phase volumetric mass transfercoefficient, that means an excellent mass transfer performance.In addition, in this paper, the application prospect of S type metal wire gauze packings in EO/EG plants was analyzed from both the process flowdiagram and number and scale of domestic EO/EG plants, the results showthat S type metal wire gauze packings have a good applying platform and abroad market space in domestic EO/EG plants. At the same time, analyzingthe present situations of packings being applied in EO/EG plants shows thatwhether the new EO/EG plant or transformation of the old plant basicallyhave chosen Sulzer packings, the development research and industrialapplication of packings for EO/EG plants in China are still in the initialstage. So the conclusion is that S type metal wire gauze structured packingshave a good industrial application prospect in domestic EO/EG plants.Furthermore,Taking the CO2absorber in Sichuan Petrochemical EO/EG asan example,and to analyze and calculate the expected effects of S typemetal wire gauze packings being applied in CO2absorber,the result showsthat S type metal wire gauze packing is obviously better than SulzerMellapak250Y packing being currently applied,the specific embodimentis that comparing with Sulzer Mellapak250Y packing,S-500metal wiregauze packing can reduce packing bed height and pressure drop in CO2absorber for about50%and60%。...
