In recent years, with the accelerated process of industrialization and the improvement of living standards, the car has become a necessity for many families. And it caused many stored metal resources were and the environmental pollution, when these cars were scrapped after several years. Today, with iron ore resources shrinking fast and the environmental pollution increasing, the recycled metal of abandoned cars could be the potential land mine. Therefore, it has very important meaning to study how to recycle and reuse of these metal resources.Study on the shredding mechanism of thin metal scrap(wall thickness less than or equal to10mm) aimed to find solutions to recovery and reuse of end-of-life vehicles(ELV). With the help of physical tests, realistic research materials could be provided for study on the shredding mechanism of thin metal scrap. The objective of Design of the shredding test machine of thin metal scrap and study on simulations of its shredded effects is to provide the applicable experimental equipment for study on the shredding mechanism of thin metal scrap.Through analyzing the existing pendulum impact testing equipment, and combined with specific problems during the shredding process of thin metal scrap, the shredding test machine, which was specially designed for shredding thin metal scrap, was developed. At the same time, by way of stimulation analysis, the evaluation of the testing equipment was made. The main job of this paper is as following:By way of analyses, the developed testing equipment could satisfy the preconcerted requirement and meet the demand of study on the shredding mechanism of thin metal scrap.The related theories of the shredding process of thin metal scrap, including geometric nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, boundary nonlinearity, the damage and fracture and so on, were studied in this paper. According to the related parameters of shredding testing equipment of thin metal scrap and the relative theories, the shredding results of the testing machine, including the processes of different shredding speed, different thickness, different counterweights and different hammers, are simulated and analyzed by using the finite software ABAQUS, and the relative conclusions are obtained. At the same time, it also shows that the developed pendulum impact testing machine could meet the requirement and serve the needs of experimental studies on the shredding mechanism of thin metal scrap.
