With the rapid development of Chinese economy, the vechicles have gradually become a popular consumer products. At the same time, the number of end-of-life vehicles are growing. Therefore, realization of end-of-life vehicles can be circular utilization of carrier energy resources has very important significance under the premise how to maintain the sustained and healthy development of the vehicle manufacturing industry. In view of the current world the mainstream approach that is shredded recycling of end-of-life vehicles’covering parts, and for more detail about shredding mechanism of end-of-life vehicles’light metal scrap, in this paper, on the basis of previous studies, a more in-depth study of the initial shredding process of light metal scrap, and the further reveals shredding mechanism of thin metal recovery from the energy point of view, in order to obtain a more scientific and reasonable end-of-life vehicles processing provides a theoretical basis.This paper studies the material from the different types of vehicles in different parts of the thin metal cover, whose brand is difficult to verify and the mechanical property parameters of materials are unknown. Therefore, tensile test for randomly selected from two categories cover, then basic performance parameters of the material were obtained, and material stress-strain relationship is simplified to a bilinear model. These results provide the necessary theoretical for the subsequent initial shredding process energy analysisIn order to realistically reflect the material shredding in the device, according to the end-of-life vehicles and home appliances light metal pendulum shredder’s working principle construct light metal scrap shredding mechanics model that shredding test of light metal scrap is simplified as cantilever beam of rigid fixed at one end, the other end free and withstand hammer impact effect. On this basis, a shredding test equipment is design. Many groups of experimental materials of light metal scrap these size is200mm×60mm were shredding test by using the self-made test equipment. Through analyzing the testing process, the shredding process was divided into the initial, intermediate, ending stages. At these stages, shredding tool leads to local sunken, overall bending and local bending deformation on light metal scrap, and the loss of stability, extension, connection, perforation happened on cracks tip of sunken deformation; after that single fragments were torn off from the large plate-shaped (sheet-like) of light metal scrap. The energy analysis showed that the energy was mainly consumed by elastic-plastic bending deformation and shredding of scrap material in the whole shredding process. Through the simplified model, we calculated elastic-plastic power of bending deformation of three parts and shredding work. The results showed the energy of shredding tool partially is used in light metal scrap shredding during the process of light metal scrap of end-of-life vehicles.Pendulum shredding process of light metal scrap is simulation by nonlinear simulation software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Through the simulation experiment confirms the local depression, overall bending and local bending deformation that happen in the shredding process of the light metal scrap. The effect laws of light metal scrap shredding process are obtained through the shredding speed, quality of the hammerhead, cantilever dimensions, hammer tip size four parameters were simulated under different conditions. It paves the way for the follow-up light metal scrap shredding and shredder research and development.
