In recent years, the importance of environmental protection gradually for well known,many countries enacted a control volatile organic compounds (VOC) laws. Waterborne epoxycoatings to maintain excellent physical properties and chemical resistance of epoxy resin, andwater as the dispersion medium to reduce the organic solvent is environmentally friendlycoatings and adhesive matrix material.Waterborne epoxy curatives are the key of waterborneepoxy resin’s application.The problems brought out by the synthesis of waterborne epoxycuratives are more complicated than waterborne epoxy resin perse. This article focuses on thesynthesis and performance of waterborne epoxy curing agent. Based on the triethylenetetramine, PEGGE, epoxy resin E-51and three kind of glycidyl ether as the basic rawmaterials. Compound of the waterborne epoxy curing agent by three step of addition, chainextender and end capping reaction. The effects of reaction time, reaction temperature, molethan the conversion rate of epoxy. Determine the best synthesis process of the epoxy curingagent. Mixed of the preparation epoxy curing agent and water-based epoxy resin. Preparationof waterborne epoxy coatings. The effects of different blocking agent obtained curing agentand resin in different mass ratio, curing temperature, curing time on the film properties.The cured products chemical structures were characterized by FTIR, and thermalperformance were analyzed by TG and DSC. The results showed that the capping coatingcuring agent was part of the properties are improved. Coating which PGE sealed end of thecuring agent have the best performance. The best ratio of water-based epoxy resins and epoxycuring agent for1.0:1.1. The cured resin films’ pencil hardness can be2H.The adhesion of thefilms will achieve the level1. Water resistant, acid and alkali resistance were higher, glossgood,and the tensile shear stress reaches26.48Mpa. Compared with the commerciallyavailable epoxy curing agent in the performance decline. Hardness and tensile shear strengthincreased. Basically reached the performance requirements of the solvent-based epoxycoatings.
