Research On Undergraduates Environmental Education’s Present Situation And The Countermeasure In Xinjiang

Along with economic development and social progress,environmental issues hasbecome increasingly prominent, and the environmental education has graduallyattracted attention in many countries. Since the1970s, we have emphasized onprotecting environment and worked on propagating the environmental education allover China, meanwhile since the1990s we have carried out educating students inXinjiang colleges and universities to study environmental education. We are havingfurther study on the theoretical and practical issues in students’environmental educationin every college in Xinjiang, which helps to enrich the environmental education theoryfor higher education in Xinjiang; and contributes to the promotion of the construction insubject on environmental education; as well promote the students’ practicaldevelopment in our whole region. This research is of great significance to cultivatestudents’ awareness of environmental protection to construct the harmonious societybetween nature and human beings.The whole research states the undergraduates’ environmental education inXinjiang from these three parts.The first part focuses on the definition of the environmental education. At first itcontains the process of environmental education at home and abroad, then includesdifferent perspectives on environmental education as well as the definition in theconcept of college students to environmental education. Next the part draws theconclusion to the definition of environmental education in the ideological and politicalperspective: Environmental education is based on the process of ideological andpolitical education, which needs to combine the environmental culture and the theory ofideological and political education to cultivate the educated in environmentalknowledge, environmental awareness, environmental ethics, environmental behaviorand skills to reach AKASP goals." following on this basis, the research illustrates fivegoals and four characteristic features on the environmental education. The second part analyzes the current situation of undergraduates’ environmentaleducation in Xinjiang. According to the result of four-hundred undergraduates’ survey,it shows the achievements in environmental education, and some problems. Then thispart provides various reasons to those problems from the nation, society, schools andindividuals, ect.The third part comes to conclude the strategies for undergraduates’ environmentaleducation in Xinjiang. In terms of the problems and the reasons in undergraduates’environmental education process, it starts from the perspective of ideological andpolitical education to put forward four main countermeasures by linking theory andpractice together: firstly, the environmental education should keep with the ideologicaland political education. Secondly, the colleges should strengthen the leadership andmanagement in environmental education. Thirdly the education should add morepractical activities.In short, the undergraduates’ environmental education in Xinjiang is not only theneed for enriching the common knowledge of environmental science to improveundergraduates’ awareness and capability, but also the need of building a reasonableeducational structure and the implementing the further scientific outlook ondevelopment. In fact, because the undergraduates’ environmental education in Xinjiangis a bit backward, it means continual strength in practice, which is a complex andarduous historical task and requires the corporative power from some relevantauthorities, universities, society and individual, as well as other aspects. This paperaims at looking forward to providing some constructive suggestions and references forthe development of undergraduates’ environmental education in Xinjiang.
