Drilling engineering is a multi-technological and distributed working hidden underground engineering, there are lots of complexity and uncertainty, how to desin a logical and scientific plan of drilling, which could be managed by information technology, as well as to develop a design assist system of drilling engineering is really important to improve the quality of drilling and to reduce the drilling risk.By limited of network condition in the well field, it is hard to ensure that engineerings could transfer data between each other. Thus, the design assist system of drilling engineering based on Smart Client technology, which supports that the system works both in the online and offline. The main job of this paper is to make the structure of the assist design system of drilling engineering with smart client technology, which it provides a visualized platform for assist design in drilling engineering, and to develop it. Firstly, based on the smart client technology, paper analyzes the detail technologys, which realize the smart client, and design the plan of connection management between server and client. And also studies the data access technology in smart client. Sencondly, the framework of this system, functional module and database system have been designed carefully. Finally, according to the system framework, a design assist system of drilling engineering based on smart client has been developed.According to the technology of smart client, a design assist system of drilling engineering has been realized. It offers a logical and scientific solution for drilling engineerings.
