Laser-arc hybrid welding is a new welding technology, with a concentration of energy, high welding speed, low deformation characteristics and so on. Based on summarization of the current researches on hybrid welding technique, a program of experimental work was undertaken to investigate the hybrid laser-MAG welding process and its application. This paper uses the CO2laser-MAG paraxial hybrid welding, which is used to study the relationship of welding process parameters, for example, the welding current, the arc voltage, the laser power, the heat source spacing, welding speed, with appearance of weld, droplet transfer, the electrical signal, and a composite welding joint microstructure and mechanical properties of laser and arc, the discussion of the interaction between laser and arc. Experiments indicate that, under certain conditions of welding, the arc power mainly affects the weld width, the laser power is the main effect of the composite weld penetration, the laser and arc guide and compression effect are beneficial to increase the weld penetration, and to reduce the weld width, so that the optimal process parameters are achieved; laser power is1.6kW,160-180A is the required welding current; the welding speed at0.8-1.2m/min for DLA should be2-4mm, so the better appearance is visible. The laser and arc coupling effect is in the best state, the droplet transfer and the electrical signal are in stability.Other experimental results indicate that:the laser arc hybrid welding efficiency can realize good bridging; weld hardness is low, and the uniformity is satisfying.
