In the process of industrial transformation, Langxi county, which is close to theYangtze river delta, experiences the accelerated development. With Langxi County as anexample, this thesis analyzed its status of sustainable development during2000to2010byecological footprint and the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). The index system consistsof3levels: economy, society and environment resources, including33sub-indicators.Results from AHP analysis indicates that sustainable development ability in langxi isenhancing. Sustainable development ability improves from poor (V grade) in2000togeneral (III grade) in2010. Based on the economic and social criteria, sustainabilitycontinuously rises. On the other hand, it fluctuates largely in terms of environmentresources.Ecological footprint per capita of Langxi County increased from0.50516gha in2000to0.74362gha in2010. The increasing of energy ecological footprint is probably thereasons for the growth of the ecological footprint per capita. Langxi’s ecologicalfootprint is currently on ecological surplus condition, however it decreased gradually inthe past years.Comprehensive analysis of the results of the two evaluation methods demonstratesthat Langxi county development capacity enhanced. In addition, sustainable state isgetting better. However, it is still in a transitional phase from the low level to a betterdevelopment pattern, relying on the resource consumption. There is high uncertainty forthe change toward a better state. The development situation is challenging. In order tocontinue to maintain the development and sustainability, it is necessary to transform theway development. This article considers that ecological footprint from grain, vegetable and cooking oilconsumption is a basic requirement of ecological footprint. Further, the coefficient of thebasic requirement of ecological footprint was proposed to reveal correlation between thebasic requirement of ecological footprint and total ecological footprint. it was used toillustrate the impact on ecological footprint structure by the economic development andsocial progress. This paper develops an ecological footprint inverted U-shaped curve (ecological footprint Kuznets curve, EFKC) to describe the relationship betweenecological footprint per capita demand and GDP per capita in a regional systemdevelopment process.Using the "ecological footprint surplus/deficit" indicator alone for sustainabledevelopment assessment, can not properly evaluate the regional sustainable development.Integrated analysis must be employed combing economy indicators.
