With the rapid economic growth, municipal solid waste (MSW) generation isincreasing. The disposal of the MSW is a big problem all the world need to face. Thecharacteristic of MSW is the foundation for MSW treatment facilities planning anddesigning. Facing the rapid growth of the MSW,Shenzhen, a metropolis in China, wasterecycling and waste incineration are the way out of the problem. Making sure therecycling potential of the MSW and knowing the LHV of the MSW after the classification,we need to survey the characters of MSW in Shenzhen. In this article, the composition, moisture content, ash content, low heating value, ultimate composition of MSW were surveyed. Using the result of the survey, we makecorrelation analysis of five factor and LHV and build regression model. Then, we use themodel to forecast the LHV of the MSW after garbage classification. The results showed that: the highest composition is kitchen,44.10%, followed byplastic and paper,21.72%and15.34%; moisture content is53.25%, and the LHV is6462kJ/kg; C, H, O, N, S, P, Cl dry medium content is35.97%,4.63%,24.31%,0.33%,0.23%,1.18%,0.31%. Heavy metals in Cr and Ge exceed the standard is more serious.Be Based on the result of the survey, the linear regression model for LHV is: LHV=11935.48+19.54F+27.57PA+113.51PL+37.06TE-176.46W. The model has a highsignificance. Use the model to predict the LHV of MSW after the garbage classification. Itwas found that if the food composition is individually collected, the moisture content willdecrease and the LHV will increase. And if garbage classification implement, the LHV isstill above6400kJ/kg. It’s still suit for incineration.
