In this study, the surface water quality of Shanghai drinking waterresources and Huangpu River’s mainstream had been researched. We havechosen dissolved oxygen, potassium permanganate index, chemical oxygendemand, five-day biochemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, volatilephenol, petroleum, total phosphorus and total nitrogen as the monitoringitems to assess the water quality of Shanghai drinking water resources andHuangpu River’s mainstream. The Main results are as follows:1. The organic pollution index and comprehensive pollution index ofSongpu Bridge section as the upper Huangpu River’s water source have beenexceeded4.0and2.0, respectively. Judging from the sort Ⅱ of《environmental quality standard for surface water》(GB3838-2002), it hasbeen dangerous for directly utilizing the water function if no measures taking.Meanwhile, the Dianfeng section as the background section of Huangpu Riverhas been the same serious pollution status during2007to2011, illustratingthat the background section of Huangpu River has been polluted, which needthe provinces linkage to control the pollution of upper Huangpu River. 2. Judging from the sort Ⅲ of 《environmental quality standard forsurface water》(GB3838-2002), the Linjiang section of Huangpu River hasseveral items exceeding the standard value, so the water quality has beenpolluted for its water function.Deciding by the organic pollution index andcomprehensive pollution index, the Nanshi Waters and Yangpu bridgesections of Huangpu River have been reached the sort Ⅳ of 《environmentalquality standard for surface water》(GB3838-2002) basically, restricting by thenitrogen and phosphorus pollution. The Wusong section’s water quality ofHuangpu River has got better constantly from2008to2011, achieving thesort Ⅳ of《environmental quality standard for surface water》(GB3838-2002)steadily.3.The average value of organic pollution index and comprehensivepollution index for Chenhang Reservoir section are0.2and1.2,respectively.Judging for the organic pollution index, the water function hasbeen good, wherever, the water quality has been polluted for its waterfunction from the determination of comprehensive pollution index, mainlydue to the nitrogen and phosphorus pollution.4. The average value of organic pollution index and comprehensivepollution index for Qingcaosha section are-0.2and0.8, reaching the sort Ⅱof 《environmental quality standard for surface water》(GB3838-2002). Thetotal nitrogen has exceeded the corresponding standard,however, the item hasnot impacted the water function directly. The Qingcaosha’s water function hasnot been harmed obviously, but it has been restricted by the Total nitrogenpollution.It is the first time that comparing the three Shanghai drinking waterresources in this paper. From the point of the view, the nitrogen andphosphorus pollution are the main pollution of Shanghai drinking waterresources and Huangpu River’s mainstream. At last, this manuscript has proposed the Preliminary suggestions and measures for controlling thepollutions of Shanghai drinking water resources and Huangpu River’smainstream.
