WS Copper Mine is a some large underground mining of copper in China,which iscomposed of northern and southern ore belt and the scale of which is up to5000t/d.Thelevel of mining in north ore zone is-310m currently,and it will extend to the level of-610m.With the development needs of mine production,it will build a tailing pond inYCK. WS Copper Mine is surrounded by Red Lake on three sides(north、east、south),and the proposed YCK tailing pond locates in the west of the lake,where is the karsterosion gully lot,where the structure is developing and the hydrological and geoloicalconditions are complex.With the mining level extending to-610m,the head differentbetween surface water bodies and underground face being increased, the cone ofdepression extending because of the mining drainage,which would be likely to affectthe tailings.The impact on the safety of deep mining after the completion of the tailingsis just the problem that is very concerned and needed to be solved urgently.The paper,based on analyzing and studying the existing geological data,made adetail study on the effect that the running of the YCK tailing pond on the safety of deepmining by using the ways of field geological survey、geophysical exploration(mainly isthe natural electric field frequency selection method,followed by EH-4magnetotelluricsounding method and seismic wave)、drilling and hydrogeological and so on.The studyshows that:1.The main aquifer rock is the Huanglong-Qixia aquifer rock group in the studiedarea,the karst is mainly developed in Huanglong-Qixia limestone,Granodiorite、lamprorhyre、and carbonaceous limestone in Maokou group are the impermeable layersin the studied area, karst is developed on the contacted zone between rock andlimestone.2.“East water-blocking body”which has some influence to the deep mining of themining area exists. Its spatial distribution is roughly wedge,and it like a trapezoidal inplane which is wide in northern and narrow in southern.“East water-blocking body”has some ability of water-resistance,however, the ability of water-resistance indifferent parts are different.3.All of the faults in the area are the hydraulic conductivity fault,but the hydraulicconductivity are quite different in different locations、different depth.4.It is not only the unconformity but also developed bedding faults(F1、F2) and karstbetween the Wutong group(D3w)and Huanglong formation(C2h)、 the Huanglongformation(C2h) and the Qixia groud(P1q),and it formed composite channels,which arethe main underground runoff channels that surface water and shallow groundwater flow to the deep mining areas.5.After taking some engineering measures, it will not have a big impact on the safetyof the underground deep mining when the YCK tailing pond is under safe running.
