With the rapid development and progress of metal-cutting technology and the advance of the level of automation, indexable cutting tools are used more and more widely in the applications and people demands are increasingly high. In the cutting process, the blade is direct contact with workpiece, and bear a great force. When the blade meets requirement of machining, excessive stress on the blade will produce damage to the blade, and the workpiece process will be stop.All these will affects the processing efficiency. The maximum stress of the blade effects by cutting edge angle, cutting edge inclination and so on. However, each of factors influence change on the blades are various. Therefore, determine the extent of each factor and then the reasonable control is necessary.This review based on describes the status of reliability studies. First, established the indexable inserts of three-dimensional model, and acquire the maximum static stress of the blade by using the finite element method analysis the static characteristics of the blade. Second, in consideration of the limitation of past numerical method to solve structural reliability, according to the theory about reliability, the paper adopts neural network technology combined with FEM to solve the tough problem because it has high nonlinear mapping function and can approach arbitrary function. Third, because the basic random parameters are blended, that is, the units of parameters are different respectively so that there is no comparability between parameters’sensitivity. The paper gets the dimensionless form and influence degree order of the sensitivity based on the theory of reliability sensitivity. Finally, optimal design the blade by the robust reliability optimal design method on the basis of the reliability of the blade need to meet. Providing theoretical reference for the designed parameters of the rotor system, there is positive realistic meaning and economic value.
