Application of phase change materials in diving suit can solve lots of problems, such as warmth, comfort and lightness, thus making the study about this area significant. In this paper, expanded perlite based composite phase change materials were prepared through porous media adsorption. Thermal insulation property of chloroprene rubber sponge containing composite phase change materials was studied as well.Firstly, the properties of capric acid and stearic acid eutectic system were studied systematically. The results showed that its phase change temperature was closed to people’s skin temperature and the latent heat was high enough. After1000thermal cycles, its thermal properties changed a little. The values of activation energy for solid-liquid transition of capric acid and the eutectic system calculated by Kissinger method and Ozawa method were similar to each other. Secondly, the shape stabilized phase change materials composed of fatty acid and expanded perlite were prepared. The optimum mass ratio for fatty acids in the composites was50%. After1000thermal cycles, the phase change temperatures of composites changed less than1℃and latent heats corresponding changed inside3%.Thirdly, the interaction of fatty acids and expanded perlite was discussed. They had good compatibility and were combined through physical acting force. The majority of pores in expanded perite were mesopore and macropore, only a few of fatty acids segments were integrated with matrix through hydrogen bond interaction, others were fixed through capillary force. Finally, the heat transfer process of body "surface-diving suit-environment" was studied. Based on the theoretical model, the applicability of composite phase change materials in diving suit was analyzed. The results reflected that thermal insulation property of chloroprene rubber sponges improved by adding phase change materials into them and the temperature controlled diving suit based on these phase change materials should employed in the environment with water temperature high than5℃.
