The Fe-Cu alloy samples were prepared by induction-heating. Analyses andtests on the microstructure, mechanical and electromagnetic properties of thesamples were done with metallographic microscope and SEM and so on, theeffects of different copper content, carbon content and heat-treatment on themicrostructure and performances of Fe-Cu alloy were researched, which providedsome technology parameters for its application in new type induction motor withcompound cage rotor, the results show that:When the copper content is from16%to24%, the matrix microstructure ofFe-Cu alloy is mainly the ferrite, copper distributes in the grain boundaries. Withthe increasing of the copper content, the hardness of the Fe-Cu alloy increasesfirst and then reduces; The hardness of the same composition alloy is that the as-cast is the highest, the annealing is the second and the quenching and low-temperature tempering is the lowest; The impact toughness of the alloy is poor, and it increases with the increasing of the copper content; when the coppercontent is20%, the microstructure of Fe-Cu alloy is uniform and the mechanicalproperties are better. When the carbon content is from0.017%to0.36%, with the increasing ofthe carbon content the copper changes from continuous mesh to discontinuousmesh and finally island shape. After heat-treatment, the hardness of thequenching and low-temperature tempering sample is the highest, the casting andnormalizing samples are the second, and the quenching and high-temperaturetempering and annealing samples are lower; The impact toughness of sampleafter annealing treatment is the best, the quenching and high-temperature tempering is the second, the quenching and low-temperature tempering, theannealing and the as-cast are lower; when the copper content is0.017%, themicrostructure of Fe-20%Cu alloy treated by quenching and high-temperaturetempering is uniform and the synthetic mechanical properties are the best. When the carbon content is from0.017%to0.36%, the electricalconductivity of the Fe-20%Cu alloy reduces with the increasing of the carboncontent; In the magnetic field strength for160Oe condition, the relative magneticconductance of the Fe-20%Cu alloy increases first and then decreases With thecarbon content increasing; When the carbon content is0.017%, the relativemagnetic conductance and electrical conductivity of Fe-20%Cu alloy is the best,The starting electric current of the motor reduces under the condition of motorstarting normally, which reduces the energy consumption and improves theefficiency level of the motor.
