With the development of technology, there are more and more ways for sheet metalforming. And water jet incremental forming technology is one of these ways. It is acombination of high pressure water jet technology and single point incremental formingtechnology. It used high pressure water jet instead of the rigid head in single point incrementalforming. It inherits advantages of the single point incremental forming technology. And itdoesn’t need to use lubricant while processing. So it has no pollution on the environment. It’sa kind of green processing technology which has extremely development potential.This paper summarized the principle and the development of water jet incrementalforming technology according to previous research. Analyzed the impact of water jet on thesheet metal theoretically. It also researches the effects of the angle between the sheet metaland water jet while forming. The changes of the thickness of the sheet metal in the formingprocess are analyzed too. The strain of different layers were analyzed separately as well. Laida theoretical foundation for water jet forming test.Proposed reform scheme according to the test results at home and abroad and theshortage of the existing test equipment.A pump with a greater flow is connected to NC headby pipes to provide high pressure water for the system to form the sheet metal.Built finite element model of water jet forming in ABAQUS. And differences of theresults between the model with and without support die, machining path from inside and formoutside, different machining path clearance are compared. The result shows that the modelwith support die has a higher forming limit than that not with die. Path from inside and asmaller path clearance is also helpful to get a higher forming limit.
