Reverse Engineering is an important technology of modern manufacturing technologies, is more widely used in product design and manufacturing process. It can improve design accuracy, get a higher quality model, shorten product design and manufacturing cycle. So this technology has broad application prospects and is receiving increasing attention throughout industry and academic world.On the basis of the concept, the application area and the research of actuality about Reverse Engineering discussed in this paper, several key technologies of Reverse Engineering are researched, including point-data acquisition, data preprocessing, the basic theory of curves and surfaces, modeling reconstruction, evaluation of model accuracy and smoothness and so on. Set the snap-fit as an example, the design solution of snap-fit modeling reconstruction is established according to the structural characteristics. Firstly, using three-dimensional measuring instrument acquired the point-data of snap-fit. Secondly, the point-data is aligned, smoothed, reduced and segmented throughout the Imageware software, so as to reconstruct model by the integrated and accurate point-data. Thirdly, the snap-fit modeling reconstruction is finished by way of modeling function of Imageware. Lastly, the accuracy and smoothness of the model is evaluated to meet the precision and smoothness requirements by adjusting the surface control points.
