Metal bellows is cylindrical thin-walled tube with the corrugated outer surface, theemergence and application has already had one hundred years of history. With thedevelopment of modern industry and science and technology, the applications of metalbellows continue to expand, and it is becoming an important device. So far, thetechnical standards almost perfect, the product quality has been improved greatly, but therapid development of modern industrial put forward higher requirements on the technicalstandards and quality of the metal bellows. Traditional design and development phase ofmetal bellows has many of disadvantage: the long development cycle and a large numberof test sample which makes a lot of time and material wasted, so how to short the productdevelopment cycle of metal bellows and improve the level of technology has become ahot topic of current researching, therefore, it is important to study on the design reliabilityand efficiency of metal bellows. In this paper, against the drawbacks of low efficiency in traditional design anddevelopment of metal bellows, the virtual design concept is referenced, using VC++programming language on the Ansys software platform for secondary development, thevirtual experimental system of metal bellows is established. The virtual experimentsystem can complete of the work processes of the virtual experiment automatically andextract the result which is needed in analyzing, at last, the result is judged whether or notto meet the operating characteristics. The initial established virtual experiment system is used to do the reliability analysisof metal bellows automatically. The reliability analysis is divided into four parts: stiffness, plane instability, columnar instability and fatigue, with respect to their virtualexperimental analysis, and the results is compared between virtual experiment and actualexperiment, the accuracy of the analysis of this system is improved by adjusting theparameter of Ansys analysis.
