Many cities have strengthened the dynamics of the railway station building as thecountry increased the investment strength on rail transport. Modern railway stations whichcombined with bus, train, subway, taxi have been a primary node that convergence of urbantraffic. And the railway stations are becoming the landmarks those represent the image of thecities and the external windows those reflect the cities’ civilization. As the important meansby which the modernization of the operational management realizes in railway station, orienting signs for passengers are used to convey service information, warning message andlocation-oriented information and so on. It also has the extremely important practicalsignificance in improving the waiting environment, improving states of passengers’psychology, offering humanity services to passengers in the waiting time, improvingpassenger’ transfer efficiency, and ultimately improving the overall level of passenger floworganization and the effectives of operation. With the functional interval in railway stationsand the travel choice behavior of passengers are becoming more complex, how to design andoptimize the orienting signs for passengers in railway stations become an urgent problem tobe solved. This thesis, based on the viewpoint of ergonomics, started with humanization idea andcombined with visual convey theory, makes analyze and optimize the orienting signs inNanchang railway station. First, after giving and analyzing the definition of orienting signs, the paper systematically analyzes the effect, classification, information transfer process andthe effect of the human vision characteristics on information transfer process, in order to makethe theoretical foundation based on what the manifestation and spatial position of orientingsigns are optimized. Second, the paper analyzes the problems existing in orienting signs forpassengers in railway stations and the fundamental reasons of these problems, and proposesoptimizing suggestions. And then the paper gives out the concrete analysis and calculationmethod after analyzing the affecting factors and three key factors of orienting sign design andprovides the scientific implementation for the design and optimization of orienting signs inrailway station. At last, taking Nanchang railway station as an example, the paper concretelyanalyzes the information, manifestation and spatial position of orienting signs in specificspaces after knowing the function and location of Nanchang railway station, and proposesoptimizing suggestions according to the existing problems. The optimizing results need to betested if they help to fulfill effectively direct by facts.
