The earthquake is the type of sudden natural disasters that can have a detrimentaleffect on people’s lives and property. In recent years, the earth has entered a period ofseismic activity, and earthquake disasters occur frequently. Therefore, structure controlapplications in structural engineering is becoming more and more important. A numberof energy-consuming devices can be set up in the structure through the deformation ofenergy-consuming materials to increase the damping to meet seismic energyconsumption, reduce the main structure of the earthquake response. Viscoelasticdampers has been widely used in the project because of its significant characteristics. Itis essentially a speed-related and passive energy dissipation devices. However, forviscoelastic dampers’ study is focused on structural steel frame, This paper focuses onthe research of viscoelastic damper in reinforced concrete frame structure performanceimprovement.This paper firstly describes the structure control theory and its development,and thecontrol form.Secondly, The damper are introduced in detail, and emphatically expoundsthe viscoelastic damper energy dissipation calculation models, the principles, anddiscusses the robustness of frame structure that added viscoelastic damper and optimalplacement of viscoelastic dampers. Finally, it makes a detailed description of the basicprinciple and procedure of Pushover analysis, and pushover analysis of a five storeyframe structure which add the viscoelastic damper and doesn’t add viscoelastic damperare made by SAP2000. To the viscoelastic damper, the damping unit of connection/support type in SAP2000only play a role when make linear time-history analysis andnonlinear time history analysis of the structure.While it has no effect in the nonlinearstatic analysis, therefore, the viscoelastic damper’s stiffness of calculation model can besimulated by the elastic connecting element. So it can make Pushover analysis of theadded viscoelastic damper structure, in order to get the structural capacity spectrum.The damper of calculation model is reflected in the calculation of effective dampingration, and then establish the demand spectrum of corresponding damping ration.Then seismic performance of the frame structure were assessed, eventually reach a conclusionby compared. Finally it makes a description of the development of plastic hinges in thewhole process of nappe of the structure.The results show that, the effect of e energy dissipation is obvious,for the reinforcedconcrete frame structure, added viscoelastic dampers than the pure frame structure. Thevertex displacement reduced, base shear has been improved a lot.In short, the structureof adding dampers can effectively play the characteristic of energy dissipation of thedamper, and reduce the earthquake response of the structure.
