Traditional anti-seismic method to resist the seismic action by strengthening the strength, stiffness and ductility of the structure itself,that is storing and dissipating the seismic energy by the structure itself. This anti-seismic method is passive. And such designs often higher cost. At present, performance-Based seismic Design has become the mainstream of the development of anti-seismic design, one of them is the energy dissipation and seismic responses reduction design concept. Application in building structures of the viseoelastic dampers discussed in this paper is one of the application research of the energy dissipation and seismic responses reduction. The viseoelastic damper has the following advantages:simple manufacture, low cost, safe and reliable, short construction period etc. It is a good passive control device. At present, the viseoelastic damper has been widely applied in the field of civil engineering, and obtained good economic results. Reasonable layout of dampers in the structure can dissipate most of the seismic energy, reduce the structural displacement, improve the seismic performance of structure. Time-history analysis is one of the commonly used analysis method of damping structure,1. According to the time-history analysis, the appropriate seismic wave was selected. Typical strong motion records were used in this paper. According to the code for seismic design of buildings, the seismic wave acceleration was adjusted.2. According to the time-history analysis, the damping ratio under rare earthquake of the frame model was established.3. When el central seismic wave input along the long axis direction, used ANSYS to calculate the seismic response of the pure steel frame model. When el centrol seismic wave input along the short axis direction, used ANSYS to calculate the seismic response of the pure steel frame model. When taft seismic wave input along the long axis direction, used ANSYS to calculate the seismic response of the pure steel frame model. When taft seismic wave input along the short axis direction, used ANSYS to calculate the seismic response of the pure steel frame model. Determined the direction of the seismic wave input.4. The modal analysis of the pure steel frame model was carried through by ANSYS software. And the preceding ten mode shapes are calculated through modal analysis. According to the mechanics model of the viseoelastic damper, storage stiffness and damping coefficient of the viseoelastic damper were calculated.5. Used ANSYS to compared the seismic response of the steel frame model those are respectively arranged in6,30,54,72viseoelastic damper. Determined the number of the damper in this paper.6. Taking a steel frame model, the steel frame model with general support and the steel frame model with viseoelastic dampers as the research object. Used ANSYS to establish the finite element model of the structure. Through the analysis found that the Layer displacement, velocity, acceleration of the steel frame model with viseoelastic dampers were smaller than two other structures. We can see the superiority of viseoelastic dampers in improving the seismic performance of structure.7. Different layout of viseoelastic dampers were used on the same steel frame model. Seismic performance of different models were compared to provide reference for practical engineering.Tlae research results illustratr that the viscoelastic damper can work effectively under unusual level seismic. For the construction of high-rise steel frame structure, Installed with viscoelastic dampers properly in the structure, influence of dynamic characteristics of the structure itself is very small, and the seismic perfonnance of buildings has been greatly improved. Arrangement of the viscoelastic damper influenced the seismic response of structure.Therefore, according to the engineering practice of visco elastic damper layout optimization design is very necessary...
