The paper is based on the study of chinese traditional doors, it learned morevaluable theoretical experience and realistic studies from the past researches. It is thefirst time to do an analysis on Pingyao traditional folk yard doors as the famous culturalheritage site. At first, the paper has chosen the fields of study and its subjects---thewell-saved Pingyao traditional folk yard doors in Ming and Qing dynasty. In the paper,it analyses the forming background of doors, learning and collecting more materials andrelated document and literature. Finally, based od the final research achievements, itwill has got a detailed classifications and feature description from the relation betweendoors and buildings and the decorations of exterior appearance.In the Han nation, Pingyao city is an outstanding model. The city presentsdiversified types of door. The paper makes a comparison among the different locations,structures and functions of courtyard doors. It generalizes the spatial features oftraditional courtyard doors in Pingyao and divides the categories of doors further. Thepaper analyses particular building methods, decorations and constructional elements, aswell as decoration craft and theme. Finally, the paper offers some advice andsuggestions on how to protect these old doors and what we should inherit. It alsoillustrates how we should use traditional methods in modern day courtyard buildings.Above all, the paper is based on the protection of existing traditional courtyarddoors in Pingyao. It also discusses architecture, environment logy, humanism andfolklore. Furthermore, it aims to outline and develop outstanding of cultural wisdom.
