Complex university campus is one of a new type of campus space which is emerges after World War II in the West. These universities are planned and designed as a whole, all of the functions are gathered in a giant building, or use the corridor, yard, base etc to integrate a high-density buildings together into a whole. This type of campus has changed traditional university whitch disperse each Department into different teaching-buildings. So they can achieve the goal of conserve the land, shared resources, interdisciplinary, and promote exchange and rapid construction requirements. With China’s sustained rapid development and implementation of technology and education, higher education has entered a new period of development, new campus are planning and constructing everywhere. To the construction of the Chinese University campus, this is an area of hundreds thought strive, university of different sizes, types, characters are constructed One after another. In this large numbers of constructing and expanding , some universities according to their characteristics using the type of complex university campus or absorb its design philosophy, gradually become an important planning and design direction. This paper describes the origin and development process of complex university campus, and studies on the functional integration, spatial patterns of these campus with typical case, finally propose the theory and practice Significance of our current campus construction. This article is divided into five chapters: Chapter one briefly narrat the concept, influencing factors, the development process and characteristics of Complex university campus; Chapter two research these universities’theory and examples from functional integration, to devide functional integration into four levels; Chapter three research these universities’theory and examples from the spatial patterns; chapter fourth discusses the current situation of this campus type in our country, recently built examples, and propose the application of such campus in China; Finally, the chapter five introduce the author’s engineering practice - concept planning and design of China Communication University Tianjin Eco-City campus.
