As a new type of energy storage device, supercapacitor has distinct propertiesincluding high capacitances, rapid charge and discharge with high current and a long life.These tmique advantages make it has a broad prospects in the field of energy storage.As a promising energy storage element, Super capacitor has the virtues of both highenergy density of battery and high power density of electrolytic capacitor. Moreover, it haslong cycle life, high storage efficiency, sound temperature adaptability and environmentalcharacter. So it is a good choice to take the super capacitor as an energy storage system.Firstly, some methods of voltage balance were introduced the advantages anddisadvantages of each method are compared in this article, then a new method of voltagebalance was proposed and simulation was made to check the effectiveness of the proposedmethod by MATLAB software. A new model for super capacitor was built in order to beclose to the real property of the super capacitor.Secondly, the structure of the super capacitor energy storage system (SCESS) wasdescribed in detail, containing the structure, control principle of the DC/DC chopper, thetopology, mathematical models and the control principles of DC/AC inverter. Then, amicro-grid containing two micro-turbine units and a PV system was built to prove theimportance of SCESS to the micro-grid. Control strategies were respectively determinedwhen SCESS was charging or uncharging. At last, simulation was made for the charge anduncharged of SCESS by using MATLAB software.Finally, the concept of stability of the micro-grid and the analysis method wereintroduced and the simulation of .and was made in the micro-grid containing SCESS byusing Matlab software. Three-phase short, cutting machine, load changing and thevariation of output power disturbances were chosen as small perturbation. A carefulanalysis of the simulation diagrams was made to evidence that the stability of micro-gridcontaining is high.
