| Grid has always been a very important tool for urban planning. While"Sub-grid", being a kind of specific grid refers to a more humane mesh underthe framework of a large grid system of automobile traffic. This thesis focuseson the use of sub-grid in urban design, which shows author’s great interest inthe development of sustainable city and resilient urban design.The first chapter reviews the use of grid in the history urban planning,and summarizes the character and development process of grid planning. Thesecond chapter starts with the predicament that modern grid is facingnowadays, and tries to bring sub-grid as an effective tool to respond to theissues emerged during the development of resilient city. Chapter threediscusses the first important issue of the impact of sub-grid on resilient city–that is, how sub-grid contains urban function. Chapter four discusses thesecond important issue of the impact of sub-grid on resilient city–howsub-grid responses to human-scale design. Chapter five mainly focuses onpractice, exploring the use of sub-grid in one project–“Creative Beijingâ€.The development city in contemporary reality has shown great complexityunder the intervention of politics, economics and culture. Under thiscircumstance, the job of urban design is not only creating statisticenvironment but creating a more resilient space which could embrace thechange in the future. Sub-grid, being a single element has great innercharacters. Through detailed study of this system, we could use it as apowerful tool to creative more active urban space, and to guide thedevelopment on a more sustainable direction. |
