This project was granted by the project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.(Contract No:50975135) and the Fundamental Research Funds for the Nanjing University ofAeronautics and Astronautics(NJ2011001).Besides the common characteristics of Ultrasonic/Sonic Driller/Corer such as simple structure,small volume, light weight, low power consumption;Ultrasonic/Sonic Driller/Corer also possess theoutstanding advantage of low axial force. consequently, Ultrasonic/Sonic Driller/Corer has wideapplication prospects in planetary exploration program. Based on structural dynamics design andexperiment of the Ultrasonic/Sonic Driller/Corer,The main research achievements were summarizedas follows:1. Based On Ultrasonic/acoustic Energy Coupling Mechanism,This system is abstracted to aspring-mass-damping system,Piezoelectric driven ultrasonic and acoustic energy coupleddynamics behavior is analysed.2. The finite element model of the system was established.Through the modal analysis,harmonious response analysis and finite element optimization designof the system,The designand manufacturing of the system is done.3. Considering contact boundary conditions, the ultrasonic/acoustic impact dynamics model whichusing dynamic explicit to analyse the stress in drilling process was established.4. According to the results of analysis,the experiment of the modal test and the movement of freemass using high-speed photography system was done.The relationship between the motion of thefree mass and the drilling performance was known.5. This paper also analyzed the constitutive relationship of the piezoelectric ceramic and theworking frequency of the drilling device in different temperatures. The temperature loaded ondrilling device and its effects on the dynamic characteristics were analyzed. Which gotton thelaw between the amplitude of drilling device and drilling property. The design and drillingperformance test of Ultrasonic/Sonic Driller/Corer using PMNT was also done.
