With the rapid development of the science and technology, people improve their quality of lifemore and more. As people’s daily transportation tool, car is in constant progress. Suspension systemis an important part which decides the car’s main performance, from dependent suspension toindependent suspension, from passive suspension to active suspension, the system has achived themore advantage of comfort, playability and safety. Because of the high cost of active suspension andthe insufficiency performance of passive suspension, the scientists are gathering their eyes in passivecomponents elastic and active damping. As the ideal executive material of intelligent structure,magnetic liquid is being used in various fields because of its liquid and solid magnetic.In this thesis, the following several aspects will be discussed: The first chapter introduces andanalyzes the present situation and the development trends of the automobile suspension system andmagnetic liquid. Introduces the discovery of magnetorheological effect and the invention of themagnetic liquid, and introduces the present situation of the application of the damping device.In the second chapter basically tells the magnetorheological effect and characteristics. From thestructure of the magnetic liquid respectively, the mechanism of rheological effect, influencing factors,physical properties and test methods in this paper. Describes the part of the magnetic liquid; magneticliquid of all aspects of physical properties and material requirements of automobile suspensiondamping liquid and its viscosity and shear yield stress test method.In the third chapter, will focuse on the design process for the structure of the magnetic fluiddamper. The establishment of the rheological equations; calculation of the damping force and damperstructure on the effect of the damping are expounded. Based on the above research and calculation, amagnetic fluid damper for small car is designed. In the fourth chapter, the damper structure will beimported into ADAMS software, a macpherson suspension system model of front wheel is established,and conduct three groups comparative experiments, separately from the magnetic field direction, thepiston channel section and the length and the flow mode and so on. Hope it is helpful to structuredesign of magnetic liquid damper in future.Finally, summarized all of the paper, summarizes the main points of the full text, analys theexperimental results, and points out the deficiency and the future prospect.
