With the rapid development in the car ownership of our society, the trafficcongestion, air pollution and energy shortage has been raised. More and morecountries have begun to pay attention to the Rapid Transit System. The Rapid TransitBuses usually have two parts which are generally connected by the hinged device. When rollover accident occurs, as the buses have a large container, it will be a bigdisastrous. Thus, it’s important to study the body structure strength and the rollercollision performance of Bus Rapid system (BRT).This paper discusses the importance and the specific research methods ofstudying vehicle rollover safety, analysis the research situation of domestic andforeign, describes the common safety regulations. According to the ECE R66regulation, this paper uses the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the rolling testof a certain type BRT vehicle. and analysis the crashworthiness performance of thebody structure, especially the top structure. This paper includes the following aspects:(1) Through the reasonable choice of element type, simplify the body structure;establish an appropriate scale finite element model of a certain type BRT.(2) In accordance with the requirements of national standard related to the topof the structure strength, checks the top structure and bottom hinge device’s structurestrength of BRT.(3) Analyze and compare the crashworthiness performance of the pillars whichhave different sections and different thickness. Crashworthiness analyses are carriedout on two body segment. This will provide basic suggests for the improved design.(4) According to the ECE R66regulation, simulations of rolling collision ofBRT under different speed conditions are carried out, analysis the crashworthinessperformance of body structure, especially the top structure.(5) According to the result of simulation of BRT, improve the weak part designof vehicle body; make the simulation bus meeting the requirements of ECE R66regulation.
