In recent years, steel scuttle in many large coal-fired power plants is widely used.But there is no definite formula which can be applied to the calculation of the stress anddeformation of the steel scuttle so far, only the reinforced concrete silos design code anddesign manual for the inter-bin structure can be used. In previous studies of steelscuttle, most is for the regular shape. In recent years with the requirement of optimizingpower plant capacity rate and the layout of process equipment limited by the specialgeologic condition. There begins to appear the irregular coal scuttle, some havemultiply hoppers with eccentric outlets are increasing but little researches can be foundabout them.This research is proposed for this problem. Combined with a completed project,aspecial-shaped steel scuttle which has two eccentric and wedge-shaped hoppers. A finiteelement model of special-shaped steel coal scuttle is established in this paper. The holeto poke coal is also considered according to the actual application requirement. Tocomply with the irregular shape steel coal, we also establish a regular shape modelwhich is same with the irregular in size. According to the finite element analysis resultswe research the influences of mechanical performance on the special-shaped steel coalscuttle caused by different wall thickness, stiffener’s width and stiffener’s length. Thearticle first considers linear materials in preliminary analysis, and then considersnonlinear materials with geometric in further analysis.When simulate the internal coal loads, the research considers the loads changing inheight and angle. By adding surface effect units, the paper accomplish the goal ofapplying vary loads.
