Facing the changeable market variations and rising product customization degree,manufacturing confront the great challenges in how to quickly respond to the marketdemand. The traditional dedicated manufacturing lines can improve efficiency throughmass production. Although flexible manufacturing system can shorten the productionperiod, its investment is great and recovery stage is too long. So reconfigurablemanufacturing system (RMS) emerges, it combined the characteristics of massproduction and flexible manufacturing system. Equipment selection and optimaldistribution, reliability of the equipment and system, setting and optimization of theWIP buffer are the key technologys of design and reconfiguration of RMS, this thesisconducted a study on reconfiguration optimization of RMS from the above aspects.Based on the traditional manufacturing system equipment layout and planning,reconfiguration of RMS conducts further analysis and discussion, not only for thereasonable layout of processing equipment, material handling equipment, etc. in meet acertain constraint conditions, but also for the influence of number of manufacturingequipments, equipment capacity, equipment state reliability, equipment load, WIP buffersetting, processing factors, etc., still more emphasizing on the influence of dynamic inproduction and complexity of market demand for reconfiguration of RMS.This thesis studies characteristics of RMS, discusses relations among configurationof RMS, WIP buffer and equipment reliability. Introduced equipment reliability into theconfiguration of RMS, realized the joint decision of equipment reliability andreconfiguration of manufacturing system. According to the traditional manufacturingsystem equipment layout method, combined facilities module motion and informationflow include equipment sets, equipment configuration parameters, process procedure,etc. which proposed a reconfiguration optimization method of RMS. Based on researchand analysis to manufacturing system layout, introduced system complexity and systemresponsivity, combining the actual level of manufacturing industry, from the modularmanagement of automated machine tool, analysed the important influence factors ofreconfiguration such as material handling distance and transportation cost, equipmentcapacity, equipment reliability, system complexity, used the information entropy theory,the fast response principle, integer linear programming, ant colony optimizationalgorithm, rank order clustering algorithm,etc., established the RMS’ manufacturing resources optimization choice model and designed RMS reconfiguration optimizationalgorithm, then gave the concepts and calculation methods of system complexity andsystem responsivity of reconfigurable manufacturing system. Provided a new conceptfor realizing dynamic reconfiguration of manufacturing system and discussed theunification of reconfiguration, productivity and cost in reconfigurable manufacturingsystem, also provided a method option for enterprises to realize reasonable equipmentlayout and rapid response market demand.
