Advanced lightweight composite has many excellent features such as high strength toweight ratios, flexibly designed and manufactured, easily structure-function integrated. Hence,it is increasingly being introduced into new designs of modern aircraft structures. Especially, advanced composite is widely used in the light aircraft with simple structure which alwayscarries light loads and has a integral fuselage. Meanwhile, wide usage of composite materialin aircraft has become an important indication of modern advanced aircraft in theenergy-hungry age.Cirrus SR20 aircraft is made of composite with fixed landing gear and has canardconfiguration. In this paper, a 3-D modeling of its main landing gear was created firstly withSolidworks, then, according to Aircraft Maintenance Manual, Aircraft Flight Manual of CirrusSR20 and Aircraft Structural Design Manual and other related materials, aircraft’s landingloads have been calculated - one of the wheels touched the earth without engine power. Thefinite element model of the main landing gear is developed and parasitically analyzed with theFE program ANSYS Parametric language tool APDL based on the rules of structuralsimplification. The structural stress, deformation and instability modal data has been workedout. Each component strength of the main landing gear is evaluated based on the Maximumstress strength theory of composites material mechanics. The conclusion points out that thestrength, stiffness and stability of the various components within the landing gear can meetthe requirements of landing load. They have sufficient residual strength. Meanwhile, thepotential damage location of the landing gear is assessed, which provided preliminary finiteelement baseline model for realizing structural health monitoring of the main landing gear.
