As the developed of the modern civilization, the activity territory ofour human is wider than before. The territory has extended to somemountain areas or tunnels which few people lived in before. These areasare relatively remote and far from the power control room. Thetraditional method may suffer some troubles. However, in order to makerational use of the electric power, to reduce power waste, and make iteasy to use, humankind also need to control the traffic illuminationthere. So a new method, PLC (Power Line Carrier communication)technology, is proposed in this paper for illuminating system, it canchange the traditional control mode, and make it convenient for thestaffs. The technology can control the whole street lamp system, andany part of the whole street lamps, and even control every lamp fromdistance.The PLC technique is one of communications technology, whichcan be realized by means of the power distribution network. After thecontrol signal being modulated, it will be loaded on the Low-voltagePower Line, and then,at the receiving terminals the useful signal willbe separated through a special modem. Because the communicationmedium (wired power distribution network) used has been built already,it needs no new communication lines. So it has many good points:reducing the use of natural resources, cutting down the cost, and havingan easy constration.To make a better use of low-voltage power line for communication,there are many technical matters to be considered. In this paper, thebasic principles of low-voltage Power Line Carrier communication technology is been introduced. Some factors which affect the PLC, suchas impedance, attenuation and noise, are been briefly analyzed.According to the specific conditions of this project, Spread SpectrumCommunication is chosen as a suitable pattern after comparing threecommon modulation patterns. Then, the principle of this battern isdeveloped in details. At last, in comparison of severalmodulation/demodulation chips, PL3106is chosen as the best one forthis project.This subject is designed for the request of Shanxi TransportationDepartment. The designed terminal controllers are installed in theholder of each lamp, controling the functional mode of each lamp. Thecommand information is sent by the host controller and transmitted viapower line. After receiving it, each terminal controller executes thecommand.The functions and the method of PL3106is also introduced in thispaper.PL3106is a modem chip used for power line communication, andsuitable for the current situation in mainland China. It has a strongcapacity of anti-interference, and has been widely used in applicationsof home Local Area Network, PLC, command deliver, etc. It has apowerful MCU and many extra functions (such as A/D conversion,real-time clock, PWM controller, etc.). The instruction set of PL3106isthe same as8051MCU. PL3106has many advantages: convenient forusing, easy for designing, low price, and rich reference materials.This paper introduces the design method of each part of the controlterminal as well as the program. It developes the steps of the terminal`sdesign. The controller includes hoster, receiver terminal and repeater.They are similar in designing, except for the part I/O and program. Thedesign of hardware includes main chip, send and power amplification,receiving unit, power source, I/O unit, anti-interference, etc., the designof software includes UART, watching dog, I/O, real-time clock, etc.,amony which the programs of send and receive units are predominantlyintroduced in this paper.
