With simple structure and features of the simple construction methods, gravity retaining wall is the main retaining engineering, which is widely used in China’s railway retaining projects. In the condition of the long-term operation, gravity retaining wall of the existing railway cutting lots has many factors that affect safety of the existing retaining wall, such as disease characteristics of retaining wall and the actual geometric dimensions of retaining wall and construction defects of retaining wall and stability and strength calculation of retaining wall. Therefore, to conduct safety assessment and reinforcement technology of gravity retaining wall of the existing railway cutting lots has the important theoretical and realistic significance.In this thesis, firstly based on the previous research methods and research results and the railway stations on-site investigation materials of our group’s collection, the characteristics of diseases that have already happened and the reinforcement measures that have been taken to the retaining wall are summarized. By using the methods of analytic hierarchy process and expert scoring jointly, the risk assessment analysis model of gravity retaining wall is established, the influence of the various risk factors on the safety of cutting area is obtained. Based on risk assessment and the stability analysis, the safety assessment elements of retaining wall is established. Based on the previous research results and relevant regulations, the security criterion of retaining wall is established.Secondly, various safety assessment methods are discussed, especially for analytic hierarchy process and expert assessment method and grey theory, whose principles and procedures are expounded carefully with the safety assessment of gravity retaining wall.Finally, a cutting gravity retaining wall of the Beijing-Kowloon railway as an example, the method of the quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis is used for safety assessment of retaining wall based on field investigation data and nondestructive testing materials and design materials. According to the assessment results and through the multi-program comparison, corresponding reinforcement measures are taken to reinforce a retaining wall with problems.
