It is very important to study the stability of retaining wall structure in highway engineering, which is one of the key problems in retaining wall research. At present, the uncertainties of the parameters in the structure were neglected in the stability evaluation method of the retaining wall, which leads to the unknown safety of the retaining wall during the actual use.In order to solve the problem of stability assessment of retaining wall, this paper proposes a method to evaluate the stability coefficient of retaining wall based on inverse reliability analysis theory considering the randomness of each design variable. This paper was studied mainly from the following aspects:1.Based on the inducting and analyzing of existing research results of structure reliability evaluation, due to not considering the uncertainties in parameters of existed safety assessment of retaining wall, the safety factor assessment method based on inverse reliability theory was proposed;2.Combining the deterministic analyzing model of retaining wall and the inverse reliability theory,a new method was proposed to calculate the safety factor, which was easily understood in engineering so that it conveniently used for engineers;3.Taking the example of retaining wall as the research object, safety factors of overturning and slippage of retaining wall were calculating using the inverse reliability,as well as parameter sensitivity analysis, the results of which were compared with the deterministic results, which indicates that ignoring parameters uncertainty will produce overestimation of retaining wall stability safety level.Compared to the deterministic safety factor method, the proposed method considers the randomness of each design variable. The safety factor based on the inverse reliability theory analysis quantitatively express the safety of the retaining wall structure, making the analysis result more realistic and science.
