With the rapid development of science and technology and the improvement of material and cultural multipartite life, the safety, the functionality and the efficiency of the constructions are put forward to the higher levels to cover the use requirement in modem times. Steel constructions are widely used in modern architecture for their remarkable performance such as lightweight, great intensity quality as well as environmental protection, especially the outstanding seismic performance for its wonderful ductility. Prominent seismic performance doesn’t mean the damage of earthquake to the structure can be ignored, the further study of the dynamic response in earthquake, and even the nonlinear dynamic characteristics in strong earthquake to the steel structures, which has an important practical significance in revealing the destruction mechanism and guiding the seismic design of steel structure.Elastic-plastic time history analysis is the main research nonlinear analysis method using in building structure currently, also the right method list in most countries’ Code for Seismic Design suggested to use with. Force analogy method is a nonlinear dynamic time-history method based on the plastic hinge theory, by establishing the relationship between the plastic hinge and the structure displacement as well as restoring force to achieve the solution of the nonlinear analysis. The method presents the real-time reflection of nonlinear response state, has its unique advantage compared with the traditional variable stiffness elastic-plastic analysis.Based on the status of research achievement to this method, the research work is done in the following aspects:(1) Based on the existing basic theory statements and research achievements of the force analogy method, a complete exposition and the general computational procedure of this method are summarized and demonstrated in this paper.(2) A numerical model of the steel frame structure is established for nonlinear analysis. based on the basic theory of the force analogy method, a numerical algorithm procedure is proposed using the MATLAB software codes, and by which the nonlinear solution of the steel frame structure model is realized and the analysis results are detailed and expatiated in the following parts.(3) Based on the existing mature nonlinear analysis module, the established steel structure analysis model is taken into SAP2000for a nonlinear time history analysis calculation, and the analysis result is used to compare with the results achieved by the numerical algorithm procedure to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the nonlinear based on analysis force analogy method.
